Sam smith quotes economics10/4/2023 ![]() ![]() treat them like idiots – we may have had more uptake. We do know now and did then that it helped many elderly – and some immune compromised – if the people with power had the humility to acknowledge what we did know, tell people that the vaccine could be beneficial but not force it on them – i.e. I keep thinking of how (IMO) the entire sarscov2 panic (yes, panic) was dealt – it is now clear (to me) that there was no need to force everyone to get a “vaccine” (with limited testing of the mRNA formulation) – and this continued even though we knew it did not stop transmission or repeat infection – and worse, immunity from infection was essentially rejected. Very interesting … thanks to both for a most illuminating discussion. One thing I thought I should mention is I like about the comment thread in econtalk is people in general use their real names, I think doing this encourages humility and well thought out and respectful comments unlike some other places like marginal revolution, well done, and it is probably an example of a “norm” that has developed here over time for one reason or another but I suspect it has taken a little bit of curating.Īnyway thanks as always for making me think, I am trying hard to make my actions when people aren’t watching be the best they can be. ![]() Maybe Russ had a different thing in mind when he said “treating people like they are children” though but I’d love to hear his version of what he means by it, maybe it is just one of those generic throw away comments but I am completely guessing. Now my aspiration is probably different to how I actually manage to behave but why would it be bad for me to treat other people who were not children in this way. I also help out children with things they can’t do but expect that they will learn how to do them and when they can do them that I don’t need to help them any more. ![]() ![]() It depends on how you treat children, I aspire to treat children with love, respect and wanting to instil in them a love of curiosity and to do good in the world, I expect to be surprised by children as they have a different view of the world than I do and don’t have all the baggage, both good and bad, that I have. I think it was Russ that said don’t treat people like they are children but then I spent the next hour while I was swimming thinking about why and what that actually means. One of the last comments that wasn’t really related to the episode got me thinking. ![]()
